Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
About our coats...
My dog hasn't reached adult size yet, should I size up?
Non.
We recommend waiting until your dog is at least 10 months old before investing in a coat.
Our coats need to fit snugly to stay in place. A coat that is too big risks “falling off” with your dog’s movements.
We also cannot estimate the adult size your dog will be. It's best not to take chances.
Are your coats suitable for other breeds?
It depends...
Our current designs are based on the proportions of standard poodles.
Our models look good on the majority of doodle type breeds and dogs with a similar body shape. Some of our models are offered with length-adjustable cuffs to accommodate sometimes shorter legs (Z’Anorak and Z’Arctic).
If your dog's proportions are different from standard poodles, it is unlikely that our current models will be suitable for your dog.
Our coats are not suitable for short-legged breeds such as ShitZu, Dachshunds, Bulldogs or other breeds with a breed-specific body shape.
For certain breeds with "average" legs, customers have decided to have the coat altered by a seamstress of their choice and at their own expense.
What is my dog protected from by wearing a ZePooch coat?
The main function of all our coats is to protect your dog from:
-The water
The snow
-The rain
-The thistles
Are your coats warm?
Not really.
None of our coats would be considered "warm" for humans. We consider that your dog has its own "lining" and therefore does not require additional heat. However, like us humans, protection against water and wind greatly contributes to our comfort in winter.
Are your coats breathable?
All of our coats are made with breathable fabrics.
Please note: dogs sweat through their mouths and paws, not their bodies.
Are your coats waterproof?
All our models protect against water and will keep your dog dry.
Difference in waterproofness/fabrics by model:
The Z'Hoodie is made with a water-repellent knit type fabric (water beads up on the surface).
The Z'Anorak is made with an unlined, waterproof canvas/shell type fabric. Two types are available to you:
-The Z'Classic Anorak : slightly stiffer canvas more akin to an autumn raincoat canvas
-The Z'Anorak Light: Lighter canvas more akin to a spring raincoat canvas.
TheZ'Arcticis made with a thin canvas type fabric lined with 3-ply fleece (soft shell) (outer canvas, waterproof membrane, fleece lining). Slightly more stretchy than the Z'Anorak.
WATER-REPELLENT vs. WATERPROOF: The difference.
-Water repellent: Waterproofing treatment applied to the fabric. Water beads up on the surface but can pass through by force.
-Waterproof: Canvas does not allow water to infiltrate.
Which model should I choose?
All our coats are designed primarily to protect large poodles (but they may also be suitable for certain other dog breeds) against the accumulation of snow “clumps” in their coat during the winter and to stay dry. Keep in mind that Poodles do not normally need a very warm coat due to the type of coat they have, so our coats are not designed to protect them from the cold specifically. Three choices of models are available to you:
The Original Z'Hoodie, for its part, also offers protection against snow clumps and will keep your dog dry thanks to the water-repellent fabric with which it is designed. However, it protects less against the wind. We could compare it to a “cotton-waisted” sweater (hoodie) with the interior in cozy fleece but the exterior in water-repellent polyester. Water beads up on its surface. This model is the most popular and greatly appreciated by our customers. We recommend it as your first ZePooch coat.
TheZ’Anorak, is what is commonly called a “shell”. It is a waterproof shell fabric coat with no lining. This model offers excellent protection against rain, snow, wind, dirt, dry thistles, and more. This model, although a little stretchy, is much less stretchy than our popular Z’Hoodies. However, the design of the coat was made taking this factor into account. has very little stretch, but just like the Z’Arctic, its design was made taking this factor into account.
The Z’arctic, our model considered to be the “warmest”, is comparable to an autumn soft-shell coat (fabric acting as a waterproof shell lined with micro-fleece). Ample warm for large breeds, It also fulfills the same functions as the Z'Anorak in terms of protection. Although not very extensible, its design was made taking this factor into account.
Are the coats accident proof?
Z'Hoodie (our most popular model)
Does your dog roam freely in the forest?
Do you plan to use the coat on outings with other dogs?
Do you have more than one dog?
Does your dog tend to tie knots easily?
If you answered yes to one of these questions, we recommend the Z'Hoodie model. Considering that no fabric is indestructible, this knitted model will tend to make holes rather than tear and will be easier to repair in the event of a collision. For those with minor problems, a small repair by hand is possible. Being more fitted to the body, this model seems better tolerated by dogs. We also believe that this aspect of the coat reduces the formation of knots in the coat by keeping it in place, but every dog is different and we cannot guarantee that they will not produce them.
Z'Anorak and Z'Arctic
Considering that no fabric is indestructible, these canvas-type models are not recommended if you plan to use them in the following situations:
Your dog is walking freely in the forest.
You plan to use the coat when going out with other dogs
You have more than one dog
In the event of a snag, these fabrics will tend to tear instead of making holes and will require a more complex sewing machine repair. In addition, in some dogs, this pattern can cause knots to form in the hair.
Can the coats be machine washed?
Machine wash on delicate and hang to dry.
It is not recommended to use fabric softener.
Question confection...
Can you measure my dog on site? Can I come to your workshop for a fitting?
Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to come into the store for a fitting.
Do you do custom coats or alterations?
We have stopped custom tailoring since 2020.
The growing popularity of our coats has allowed us to establish a gradation meeting the majority of sizes of poodles, doodles and more and more breeds with similar proportions.
Unfortunately we no longer make alterations.
Once you receive your coat...
My dog doesn't want to move. Is the coat too small?
This is not an indication that the coat is too small. Many dogs may freeze when a coat is put on them. But everything should return to normal after a bit of getting used to it.
The coat doesn't. Can I make an exchange?
Yes
Please refer to our exchange policy
